US Hacker Sentence Sends Out Clear Message

Ipswitch : 29 March, 2010  (Technical Article)
Security expert at Ipswitch comments on the recent sentencing of Albert Gonzalez in the largest computer-crime trial in US history
Convicted TJX hacker Albert Gonzalez has sentenced to 20 years in prison for leading a gang of cyber thieves who stole more than 90 million credit and debit card numbers from TJX and other retailers. The sentence for the largest computer-crime case ever prosecuted is the lengthiest ever imposed in the US for hacking or identity-theft.

Ipswitch's resident security expert and VP of global strategy, Frank Kenney, has been quick to comment on the case: "Raising the bar with sentences like the Gonzalez case may detract future hackers," said Frank Kenney. "It sends out a clear message that hacking or identity theft will not be tolerated, and also severely dealt with."
