Certification for environmental management systems from the National Security Inspectorate receives approval from UKAS. |

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) has been granted UKAS approval for its Environmental Management Systems (EMS) Certification Scheme. NSI is now the only sector-specific Accredited Certification Body able to provide EMS certification to those who operate in the security and fire industries.
The EMS scheme is generally being targeted at NSI Gold approved companies who already have Quality Management System approval. It will be of particular interest to those companies working towards an integrated management system that addresses Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety requirements.
There is an increasing trend for companies to strive for continual improvement in their environmental performance. By gaining EMS certification through NSI, companies are able to fully satisfy the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001 and show that they have a robust system of identifying all applicable Environmental legislation, evaluate its relevance to their company and verify their compliance on an on-going basis.
Of all the UKAS Management Systems Accreditations, EMS is the most challenging to achieve and maintain, principally because of the depth of knowledge required by the auditors who must keep up to date with the ever-expanding list of legislation.
Andrew White, NSI Chief Executive, commented "NSI has been developing the EMS scheme for a number of years and I am delighted that we have now achieved this accreditation. It underlines the fact that NSI is a forward-thinking organisation, providing a fully comprehensive certification service for companies involved in the security and fire sectors."
