Transport security laboratory agreement extended.

Guardian Technologies International : 28 September, 2007  (Company News)
Laboratory for testing threat detection technology for the US transport industry will continue to be used by Guardian Technologies under extension of existing agreement for continuing development of PinPoint threat detection technique.
Guardian Technologies International has announced that the Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRDA) with the federal Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) to test the Company's PinPoint threat-detection technology has been extended for an additional six months. The milestone extension further validates the Company's stated strategic initiative to commercialize its next generation threat detection technology in the global multibillion-dollar homeland security market.

The TSL is a branch of the US Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate, and is located in Atlantic City, NJ, within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) William Hughes Technical Centre.

CRDA programs under the TSL mission are conducted to accelerate and expand promising technologies to the point of operational test and evaluation. Technologies that have successfully gone through this process are typically passed on to the TSA Office of Security Technology for operational evaluation in the nation's airports.

"It is difficult to overestimate the importance of this milestone extension to our contract with the TSL," said Bill Donovan, President and Chief Operating Officer of Guardian Technologies International. "We are looking forward to continue working closely with this elite agency within the Department of Homeland Security to provide them with the technology and materials they need to implement next generation solutions to help safeguard our nation's citizens. We believe we are now one step closer to making PinPoint available to airports across the country and around the world."

Under the terms of the extended agreement, TSL will perform an independent assessment of PinPoint, which has been developed to improve the detection of explosives, guns, knives, and ammunition concealed in parcels, boxes, baggage or cargo containers. The PinPoint software is designed to facilitate integration with commercial X-ray equipment and enable security teams to screen more people and baggage with greater accuracy.

"We continue to be very optimistic and excited to work with the US Government's premier facility for testing and validating transportation security technologies," said Carl Smith, Vice President of Operations of Guardian Technologies. "The extension of the CRDA among other initiatives complements the DHS Transportation Security Administration's mission to make explosives detection at the passenger checkpoint initiatives a national priority. The TSL program is a critical step in the testing and evaluation process."

Guardian has developed and is currently opening up major international markets for its homeland security-focused PinPoint product. PinPoint enhances current-generation security x-ray scanners with the ability to autonomously determine the actual chemical composition of items viewed rather than relying on human operator vigilance and interpretation. Guardian offers the only technology that can automatically alert security officers to the presence of explosives or other dangerous substances hidden in baggage.
