Tier-3 applauds release fo behavioural analysis software, Threatfire.

Tier-3 : 15 October, 2007  (Technical Article)
Behavioural analysis software from PC Tools launched onto consumer market to combat the elusive zero day threats that many anti-virus packages miss.
Tier-3 has welcomed the launch of ThreatFire, a new behavioural analysis-based consumer security package from PC Tools.

Geoff Sweeney, Tier-3's CTO, said that PC Tools' move is to be welcomed as it raises the profile of behavioural analysis (BA) software at the consumer end of the market.

'Anything that raises the profile of the need for behavioural analysis software in the IT security industry is to be welcomed,' he said.

'Several vendors have added elements of behavioural analysis technology to their consumer IT security products in recent months, but the launch of a fully-fledged behavioural analysis package for the consumer marketplace is not before time,' he said.

According to Sweeney, the arrival of multi-vector and hybrid IT security threats in the last few years, coupled with a surge in so called zero day threats, means that even the best conventional IT security software is hard-pressed to protect against all known threats.

'When you factor in the problem of unknown threats, you start to realise that behavioural analysis software is an ideal addition to any company's IT security arsenal,' he said.

'The fact that consumers now have access to this technology via ThreatFire is excellent news, as it all helps to raise people's awareness of the need for behavioural analysis software,' he added.
