The IAA selects new board members

International Authentication Association (IAA) : 06 July, 2009  (Company News)
Global authentication body elects two key appointments to its board at AGM
The International Authentication Association (IAA), the global body for authentication, has made two key appointments after electing new board members at its recent AGM.

The IAA, which provides a voice for the authentication community, has added Richard Burhouse and Mark McGlade to its board.

Both new members are from the UK with Richard representing Payne Security, a provider of brand protection, document authentication and ID solutions, and Mark from Ingenia Technology, a specialist in the authentication and verification of product packaging, papers, plastics and metals.

The seven-strong board will again be led by Chair David Howard, director of product protection for the Global Brand Integrity Group of Johnson & Johnson, who will continue in the role he has performed successfully over the last 12 months.

The IAA was formed in 2007 and brings together 20 of the world's leading suppliers and users of authentication technologies.

Its aim is to promote the use and benefits of authentication as part of a comprehensive anti-counterfeiting and piracy strategy - protecting products, documents and their users from the threat of fraud.

Since its launch, the IAA has played a key role in the development of new global standards for combating counterfeiting as well as working closely with Governments, organisations, brand and product owners around the world to educate them about the value of authentication.

The full board comprises:

- David Howard, chair, Johnson & Johnson
- Jim Rittenberg, Authentix, USA
- Ed Dietrich, Hologram Industries, USA
- Gunther Galfe, Schreiner ProSecure, Germany
- Richard Burhouse, Payne Security, UK
- Mark McGlade, Ingenia Technology, UK

Chair of the IAA, David Johnson, said: "Today, more than ever before, there's a compelling need for brand owners to protect their products from counterfeiters. The IAA is helping to drive awareness of such threats and the role authentication technologies can play in combating them.

"Since the organisation's inception, important strides have been made towards developing global standards. The IAA and its members have played a key role in supporting and guiding Governments and other bodies in this effort. However, general understanding and appreciation among brand and product owners of the value and benefits of authentication still needs to be improved.

"That's why over the coming months, the IAA is working towards the development of a new framework that can be used worldwide to develop a common understanding of authentication. It will also assist brand owners in making the case for authenticating and how they should go about it.

"I'd like to express my thanks to our departing board members for the valuable contributions that they have made to the IAA and the progress and understanding of authentication."
