Technology partnership for contactless payments

LEGIC Identisystems Ltd : 04 December, 2012  (Company News)
Legic has entered into a technology partnership with Oberthur Technologies to improve the selection of solutions available for contactless payments
Technology partnership for contactless payments

Oberthur Technologies and LEGIC Identsystems combine two powerful technology platforms to enhance contactless and dual-interface payment product offerings. The combination of existing payment solutions and LEGIC’s identification solutions creates new business opportunities for industries such as public transport authorities, banks, airlines or leisure facilities.

This partnership enables Oberthur Technologies to leverage its contactless and dual-interface smart cards with LEGIC’s virtual contactless transponder technology. The existing payment card portfolio of Oberthur Technologies will be extended with multi-applications such as physical access control, public transport ticketing, parking, or logical access solutions. The combination of existing payment solutions and LEGIC’s identification solutions creates new business opportunities for industries such as banks, public transport authorities or leisure facilities.

LEGIC card-in-card solutions embedded in Oberthur Technologies’ platforms integrate a virtual LEGIC transponder onto contactless and dual-interface payment smart cards. In this manner, Oberthur Technologies’ Cosmo Fly dual-interface contactless payment cards can additionally be used as multi-application payment devices for public transport, event ticketing, fitness club access or parking solutions, allowing Oberthur Technologies’ customers to enhance the value of their cards. Simultaneously, cardholders will enjoy greater convenience through a reduced number of cards in their wallet. LEGIC technology offers the flexibility to add new applications at any time, even if the card has been already distributed to the consumer.

According to Cédric Collomb, General Manager Cards & Services, of Oberthur Technologies, “Our customers are looking for innovative solutions to offer more services to their cardholders. The multi-application dual payment card is one of them. This new partnership with LEGIC will further enhance the capabilities of our powerful Cosmo Fly card platform and will offer clear benefits to our customers giving them access to an entirely new set of opportunities”.

Dr Reinhard Kalla, Vice President Product Marketing & New Business of LEGIC is delighted about this new partnership: “With Oberthur Technologies we win a global partner in the field of secure payment and identification solutions and it constitutes a powerful enhancement of our partner network. This partnership will extend the availability of high quality LEGIC enabled credentials while opening new business opportunities for converged services in the contact and contactless application space.”
