Symantec issues update on Clampi virus

Symantec : 29 September, 2009  (Technical Article)
Latest spread of the clampi virus thought to be based on malicious drive-by attacks from infected English language web sites
Whilst the Clampi virus has been around for a number of years, its latest iteration gained a lot of media attention last week. Symantec has just revealed its updated analysis of the threat which shows that Clampi has mainly affected machines in the US. In fact, infection rates are skewed towards countries where English is the primary language. This may indicate the first infections were as a result of malicious drive-by attacks on English websites.

The top 5 rates of new infections over the last two weeks are:

1 North America
2 Great Britain
3 Canada
4 New Zealand
5 Mexico

Symantec will be publishing a series of blogs discussing the various aspects of the Clampi Trojan.
