Stretch participates as founding member of the HDcctv Alliance

Stretch : 16 June, 2009  (Company News)
Alliance launched for the development of standards for the uncompressed transmission of Hi-Def video over CCTV infrastructure
Stretch has announced its participation as a founding member of the newly formed HDcctv Alliance. The HDcctv Alliance is chartered with developing standards to allow the transmission of uncompressed high-definition video across existing CCTV infrastructure. The ability to use existing coaxial cable allows surveillance installations to be quickly migrated to high definition using technology and techniques already being used in standard-definition installations.

Commenting on Stretch's participation in the Alliance, Craig Lytle, Stretch president and CEO said, "The formation of the HDcctv Alliance is a major milestone for the surveillance industry. For the first time, the video surveillance industry will be able upgrade to the same quality and resolution of high-definition video that they have in their homes without making changes to existing cabling infrastructure."

As a founding member of the Alliance, Stretch has been instrumental in working with the other founders to develop the HDcctv standard, including providing the first hardware demonstrations of the technology during the ISC West, SecuTech, and IFSEC trade shows this past spring.

"The scalability and flexibility of the Stretch Software Configurable Processors enabled us to quickly prove out the HDcctv technology," commented Bob Beachler, Stretch vice president of marketing, operations, and systems design. "Our S6000 devices were able to easily interface to the new HDcctv receiver technology, and the Stretch Intelligent Encoder software enabled us to compress the video in multiple encoding formats, including H.264 SVC. Customer response to the demonstrations has been beyond our expectations, and we expect to be in production with a new line of high-definition DVR add-in cards by the fall of this year."

With the advent of high-definition video over standard infrastructure, the need to intelligently manage the video storage and network bandwidth becomes more critical, as the size of even the encoded video is large. The Stretch H.264 Scalable Video CODEC (SVC) is the perfect solution as it gives ultimate control over storage and bandwidth consumption. Stretch H.264 SVC allows multiple streams of different frame rates and resolutions to be stored and forwarded as needed. "The combination of Stretch H.264 SVC technology and HD CCTV is extremely powerful, and we at Stretch are looking forward to continuing our work with the HDcctv Alliance to bring customers increasingly better solutions to all their video surveillance needs," said Mr Lytle.
