SSAIB accredits Alarm Receiving Centre to BS 5679 CAT II

SitexOrbis : 05 January, 2010  (Company News)
With British Standard certification, the new alarm receiving centre of SitexOrbis in Merseyside has obtained the service levels required for communication with the emergency services
SitexOrbis' new state-of-the-art alarm receiving centre on the Wirral has achieved BS 5979 CAT II accreditation after significant investment by the 24/7 property and people protection leader.

The BS standard is the highest code of practice for remote centres, receiving signals from fire and security systems and is a pre-requisite for regular and reliable communication with emergency services.

Accreditation verifies that measures are in place to maintain an uninterrupted operation, such as the deployment of tough physical and electronic security and disaster recovery procedures. It also prepares the ARC to comply with the BS 8484 code of practice that ensures emergency services can continue to be summoned rapidly to lone worker incidents. SitexOrbis expects to meet this stringent criteria which comes into effect early 2010.

Chief executive David Walker said: "Obtaining BS 5979 accreditation was an extremely important goal for us that ensures our electronic security services remain among the most safe and secure in Europe. We believe this will give our customers great peace of mind, as many rely on us to summon vital support in emergency situations."

Services co-ordinated and resolved by the ARC's operational teams include response to victims of anti-social behaviour, lone worker panic escalations, tenant emergencies, void-property alarm monitoring, tower block response and business continuity programmes.

Assessment and registration was by SSAIB, the Security Systems & Alarms Inspection Board.
