Smart card readers with no drivers and no software requirements.

Kobil Systems : 14 November, 2007  (New Product)
Zero footprint readers for smart cards offer true plug and play functionality through USB connection for PIN verification and transaction display.
The German IT-security vendor Kobil Systems now offers its EMV-TriCAP and KAAN TriB@nk readers with "Zero Footprint for Smartcard Applications". Thanks to this technology, the devices can be used at any PC without the installation of software or drivers. They can be used for offline SmartTAN-plus and EMV-CAP applications but can also function as complete secure PINPad reader with display for online use with HBCI, EMV and PKI applications. The KAAN TriB@nk has been designed for use in the German banking market (SmartTAN-plus and HBCI), whereas the EMV-TriCAP was developed for international businesses. Both devices are available for less than 40 Euros and will be on display at the European Banking & Insurance Fair (E.B.I.F.) in Frankfurt in Hall 5.1, B 52 from November 20th till 22nd.

For their EMV-TriCAP Reader with "Zero Footprint for Smartcard Applications" Technology, Kobil Systems has already secured a major deal with one of Europe's leading financial institutions. The technology developed and patent-registered by KOBIL has already proved its value when integrated in the mIDentity solution.

Thanks to the secure PIN entry and the transaction display, the devices offer the security of PINPad reader with display and are at the same time easy to handle for the mobile user. In order to carry out mobile banking transactions safely, no installation of drivers or software is necessary.

The reader is connected to the computer via the USB port, authentication and signature are realised simply with the Smartcard. The EMV-TriCAP has EMV-CAP and EMV 2000 Certificates and fulfils the EMV CAP Standards requirements for secure online transactions (Europay-Mastercard-Visa Chip Authentication Program).

The KAAN TriB@nk will meet the demands of the upcoming ZKA Secoder Standard which will make any SECCOS smartcards highly secure for the use with online banking. For both devices, the Common Criteria EAL3+ Approval according to the Signature Law is being worked on. A safe firmware update enables the terminals' adaptation to future demands regarding smartcards and their functional extensions.
