Smart card access to e-services

Gemalto : 27 October, 2008  (New Product)
Gemalto makes successful demonstration of access control to e-commerce services using secure ID cards
Gemalto announces it is first to demonstrate its solution that enables citizens to instantly connect to e-services using e-ID smart cards. Coesys eGovernment Authentication Solution requires no software installation on the citizen's computer. It therefore drastically simplifies the roll out of value added secure services and boosts their adoption. It runs with any browser and any operating system, allowing plug-and-play connectivity from any PC.

At a conference held by the French authorities, Gemalto is demonstrating its 2007 Sesames award-winning innovation, using a smart card implementing the European Citizen Card standard. Coesys eGovernment Authentication Solution will also be showcased at "Cartes & IDentification" tradeshow in ten days.

With Coesys eGovernment Authentication Solution, Gemalto is spearheading the citizen-centric approach that major countries across the world are now developing, also described as e-Government 2.0. It offers enhanced security by enabling end-to-end transport of user-credentials and attributes. By cutting out the need for client middleware, it represents a paradigm shift in smart card-based service delivery over the web.

The core technology at work inside Coesys eGovernment Authentication Solution is Gemalto's SConnect. Providing smart card neutral connectivity, it won the "Best Software" Sesame award in 2007. Together with enabling conventional smart card applications, such as strong authentication, secure credential storage and access, and digital signatures, Coesys eGovernment Authentication Solution paves the way for the new range of digital identity applications that are served over the Web.

"A new model of smart online services is appearing in a number of e-government schemes," commented Frederic Trojani, Senior Vice President of the Government Programs Solutions Group at Gemalto. "We are proud to demonstrate our capacity to make these e-services more convenient and accessible to citizens, more secure and more user-oriented than ever."

To date, Gemalto has implemented online authentication solutions for e-health and e-ID programs in more than ten countries, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, Finland, France, Portugal, Qatar, Slovenia, Sweden, UAE and UK.
