Small business vulnerability protection

Guidance Consulting : 04 August, 2009  (New Product)
Guidance Consulting opens department for offering services to smaller businesses for protection from network damage through system vulnerabilities
Guidance Consulting, a technology support provider with a focus on vulnerability protection for small and large businesses, urges all small business owners to readdress their current infrastructure and network security measures to meet growing threats to their bottom line.

'Small businesses are often the most vulnerable to online attackers because they suffer from low self-esteem,' says Ronald Gottilla senior consultant at Guidance Consulting. 'Basically, they think they're too small to be targets or that any damages caused by malicious software can be easily recouped. But the reality is that neither of these concepts is true.'

So many of today's vulnerability threats are automated, meaning that they don't discriminate between businesses. A virus meant to infect a company's network isn't going to care if it's accessing a Fortune 500 company or a small mom-and-pop shop selling sweaters online. Many of them are designed to self-propagate and get in wherever they can - and the mom-and-pop shop is much less likely to have a layer of protection where it's needed the most.

There is also the matter of costs associated with vulnerability protection and damages caused when that protection fails. Damages associated with viruses, hackers, malware, and other programs extend into billions of dollars each year. Whether it's from a loss of information, a loss of time, a loss of productivity, or even lawsuits due to insecure information on the part of clients and employees, the damages that can be caused by a single virus are enough to bring entire small businesses to a halt.

'These days, having a company like Guidance Consulting taking care of your online security needs is a lot like having someone come to your store to put a deadbolt on the door,' asserts Gottilla. 'No matter how small your business, you wouldn't leave your door unlocked at night. So why would you leave your network unprotected, as well?'

From websites and online storefronts to more detailed networks and company infrastructures, there is no technology too large or too small to benefit from vulnerability protection. In today's digital age, small businesses simply need to incorporate security consulting and services into their business plans. And with companies like Guidance Consulting offering special packages for small business owners, the price tag isn't nearly as high as one might expect.
