Single Product Combines Asset Management With Network Discovery

Ipswitch : 21 January, 2011  (New Product)
IT network security strengthens with WhatsUp Gold providing automatic detection capabilities for improved asset management and compliance
Ipswitch’s Network Management Division, developer of the WhatsUp Gold suite of innovative IT management solutions, has announced WhatsConnected 3.0, the newest version of the powerful Layer 2/3 discovery tool designed for mid-to-large enterprises, as well as version 14.4 of its flagship WhatsUp Gold IT management suite.

WhatsConnected, which is available both as a standalone product and as a plug-in for WhatsUp Gold, allows an organisation to automatically discover, map, inventory and document its entire IT infrastructure quickly and efficiently. WhatsConnected saves time and money by allowing IT teams to quickly visualise how everything in a network is connected, including software, operating systems, applications and hardware.

WhatsConnected 3.0 offers a wide range of new enhancements to improve the speed and efficiency of IT management, including:

* Dynamic refreshing of maps – automatically finds and maps changes; provides accurate, up-to-date topology views.

* Microsoft Windows inventory and reporting – gathers, filters and exports system information.

* Customisable device and group filters – provides flexibility to see devices based on specified criteria.

* Granular discovery and scanning – collects detailed or basic information faster.

“Busy IT staff can now get fast, detailed views of software, operating systems, applications and hardware with WhatsConnected 3.0, saving time and protecting the integrity of the broader IT infrastructure,” said Marina Gil-Santamaria, Director of Product Marketing at Ipswitch Inc.’s Network Management Division. “The granular detail and flexibility of WhatsConnected and WhatsUp Gold can help organisations with important compliance initiatives while allowing them to track and manage all assets in a network.”

WhatsUp Gold (WUG) uses the highest level of cryptography available in the commercial software market, Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2. And now, WUG 14.4 automatically detects FIPS 140-2 validated operating systems to strengthen network security without any effort from the IT staff. In addition, WUG 14.4 supports Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as its default Web server, eliminating the need for a separate Web server and providing an easy to use IT management solution at an affordable price.

"Historically, we used a number of different solutions to monitor our network and applications," says Andy Erickson, Chief Technical Officer for Stellar LLC. "With WhatsUp Gold and WhatsConnected provides us with a unique 360 degree view of our network and applications in one spot, so we no longer need to keep an eye on a number of different solutions. WhatsConnected has reduced our software overheads and provided our technicians with a wealth of information so that they can pre-empt potential problems."
