ScanSafe and SoftScan agree on web security marketing alliance.

ScanSafe : 25 February, 2008  (Company News)
Web security appliances from ScanSafe re-branded within SoftScan portfolio for marketing to corporate clients.
ScanSafe has teamed with SoftScan in an agreement under which ScanSafe's services are re-branded as SoftScan Web Security and are available to the company's 7,000 corporate customers.

"SoftScan has long been the leading provider of managed email security in Northern Europe," said Eldar Tuvey, CEO, ScanSafe. "The addition of Web Security to SoftScan's portfolio of managed email security is a natural fit, enabling SoftScan customers to enjoy effortless protection from zero-hour Web-based threats."

As malware moves from the inbox to the browser, Web threats have become a significant pain point for businesses worldwide and are increasingly found on legitimate, trusted brand name sites. The ScanSafe Threat Centre has reported numerous instances of sites unknowingly hosting malicious code including MySpace, Facebook, The India Times, Tom's Hardware and others. In addition, uncontrolled Web surfing drains valuable bandwidth and exposes employees to inappropriate content.

"The dynamic and open nature of the Internet makes it easy for IT-criminals to exploit and they often hit where it is least expected," said Diego d'Ambra, CTO, SoftScan. "With users frequently being led to infected websites through links in their email or instant messaging service, securing Web traffic is a priority. Particularly when you consider that even websites you trust can be carriers of malware - often through third party content.'

The new SoftScan Web Security service requires no hardware, maintenance or upfront capital costs and delivers real-time scanning of Web and IM traffic. As a result, the service increases productivity, reduces bandwidth consumption and offers a lower total cost of ownership than hardware or software solutions. By removing the burden of maintenance and support, the service frees up internal IT resources to focus on other core projects.

SoftScan's Web Security service includes:

Web Malware Scanning: Scans Web traffic in real-time to eliminate Web malware including spyware, adware, phishing, Trojan horses, key loggers, backdoors, root kits, worms and zero-hour threats before they can enter your network and compromise your computers

Web Filtering: Allows businesses to create, enforce and monitor Web usage policies, protecting organisations from the legal liabilities of inappropriate content, reducing bandwidth congestion and improving employee productivity. The service includes a safe search feature that scans results from popular search engines Google, Yahoo! and MSN, providing advance warning of any malware and guidance on acceptable or unacceptable websites, based on the customer's Web filtering policies

IM Control: Enables organisations to control and secure the rapidly growing use of public IM, such as AOL, Yahoo!, and Windows Live, in corporate networks. Outbound and inbound IM traffic is scanned in real time and managed to provide enhanced security, control and compliance over employees' IM use

Customers will also be able to access ScanSafe's recently launched Anywhere+ service from SoftScan in Q2 2008. Anywhere+ provides real-time protection from malware and enforcement of acceptable Internet usage policies for all users surfing the Web regardless of their location, allowing businesses to easily extend their security perimeter to anywhere their employees work.
