Scalable Continuous Data Protection System From R1Soft

R1Soft : 28 June, 2010  (New Product)
Replication software from R1Soft provides continuous data protection and replication capability for effective backups through change tracking
R1Soft has announced the release of CDP Standard Edition 3.0, the first product edition in R1Soft's new industrial-strength CDP 3.0 backup product line.

R1Soft Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is a specialized form of replication software used for backups. This software continuously tracks changes to files on Windows and Linux servers and periodically copies these changes into point-in-time backup images. These backup images can be used for both restoring individual files and a bare-metal disaster recovery. While other products perform a similar type of replication as well, R1Soft CDP is unique in that it works on commodity hardware, is amazingly affordable, and uses minimal hardware resources credited to its asynchronous method of replication.

R1Soft's new CDP Standard Edition product functions as stand-alone server backup software requiring no dedicated hardware, replicating backup images to any reliable disk storage. CDP Standard Edition supports internal hard disk drives, iSCSI, FC-attached storage, or network file servers. You can open and close CDP Standard Edition Disk Safes which are portable containers for backup recovery points. Disk Safes can be copied and transported on USB drives or transferred on the network with any simple file copy utility.

One of the concerns about using replication software such as CDP for backups is that you need somewhere to replicate the data. That can mean buying additional storage gear and even leasing space at another facility that then houses it.

CDP Standard Edition enables smaller organizations to avoid this upfront expense and start protecting their data in real time with something they can afford like a second hard disk. Then, if and when their application grows or their data recovery demands change (for example, they want to replicate application data offsite to another facility), they can reconfigure CDP Standard Edition to start replicating to this target on the fly. It gives these size organizations the ability to test drive a replication solution for little or no cost; it creates a workable and verifiable DR and business continuity plan within hours; enables them to use the type of storage devices that meets their needs; and, easily and quickly adapt this solution as their application and recovery demands grow and change.
