Safestick USB products receive FIPS certification

Blockmaster : 23 October, 2009  (New Product)
Inclusion on NIST list enables BlockMaster secure SafeStick USB products to be used in US federal markets
BlockMaster Security has announced its chipset BM9931, the engine of the SafeStick USB product line, including the new SafeStick SuperSonic, has been named to the National Institute's Standard and Technology's (NIST) Cryptographic Module Validation Program and is pending Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) 140-2 certification. The pending certification further demonstrates BlockMaster Security's commitment to delivering secure high-speed performance based products to the federal marketplace.

In the United States, the federal government is required to purchase cryptographic products validated to the FIPS 140-2 standard. BlockMaster is currently working with a federally accredited FIPS laboratory to perform FIPS 140-2 validation testing. The product will achieve overall level 2 certification and also meet level 3 criteria at select points to ensure the broadest possible user availability. Currently, the solution features security that supersedes the FIPS requirements, including the timer lock down functionality.

Meeting the FIPS 140-2 testing criteria further validates that BlockMaster SafeStick products comply with relevant government security standards, and certifies to the set criteria that the SafeStick product line is secure against electronic attacks or access to critical security parameters.

"The FIPS validation process is rapidly moving forward and, we are confident that our products will meet the criteria to quickly achieve this certification," said Anders Pettersson, Chief Security Officer at BlockMaster Security. "Certification will further validate our SafeStick solution for US federal agency and department customers and make it available for additional users that require the FIPS 140-2 -- making it the ideal cost efficient choice for US government organisations."”

BlockMaster, is known for its SafeStick USB product, which is available worldwide and distributed in 46 countries. SafeStick is a trusted solution used by governments and heads of states around the globe. The company currently services the versatile security needs of Fortune Global 500 businesses, head of states, schools, non-profit organisations, government agencies, police and military. Among BlockMaster's customers is the world's largest healthcare organisation, the National Healthcare Service with an implementation that exceeds 180,000 drives. Other customers including Deloitte, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, BAE Systems, H&M and SAPA have relied on BlockMaster to help stop the proliferation of unsecure, unmanaged and infectious USB storage drives.

The SafeStick product line is optionally managed by BlockMaster's SafeConsole the world's most well adopted secure USB flash drive central management software. Among popular SafeConsole features is the ability to granularly enforce organistional password policies, perform remote password resets, enable audit for compliance and remotely terminate the drives.
