RSA Conference award for Sourcefire

Sourcefire : 29 April, 2009  (New Product)
Snort gains best intrusion prevention system award for Sourcefire at the RSA Conference in San Francisco
Open source innovator and Snort creator, Sourcefire has announced that Snort was named Best Intrusion Detection/Prevention Solution at the 2009 SC Awards. Sourcefire was presented with this Reader Trust Award during last Tuesday's SC Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the annual RSA Conference in San Francisco, Calif.

"Sourcefire is proud to be recognized by SC Magazine's readers for delivering the best intrusion detection and prevention system in the industry," said Michele Perry, Chief Marketing Officer at Sourcefire. "The combination of our continued innovation and the expertise of our Vulnerability Research Team provides our customers with leading protection against today's dynamic threats, and this award highlights the value that Sourcefire and Snort deliver our worldwide user base."

With more than 225,000 registered users and over 3.7 million downloads to date, Snort is the world's most widely deployed intrusion prevention system (IPS). It is the de facto standard for intrusion detection and prevention, used by 80% of the Fortune 100, 42% of the Global 500 enterprises and throughout the US government. Snort is supported by the open source community, Snort development team and the Sourcefire Vulnerability Research Team (VRT), a group of leading intrusion prevention experts working to discover, assess and respond to the latest trends in hacking activity, intrusion attempts and vulnerabilities.

"Our readers have recognized Sourcefire for its superior ability to address the most pressing IT security challenges facing the industry," said SC Magazine Editor-in-Chief Illena Armstrong. "Every vote is a testament to Sourcefire's success in helping organizations tackle IT security on a day-to-day basis."

The SC Awards Reader Trust competition honours the best-in-class security products and services. The winners were selected by the Reader Trust Voting Panel - a cross-section of SC Magazine's readership that includes large, medium and small enterprises from all major vertical markets. The annual awards highlight and showcase the best solutions, services and professionals while recognizing achievement and technical excellence in the information security industry.

Sourcefire is consistently recognized for its innovation and industry leadership with more than 40 awards and accolades to date. Most recently, the Sourcefire 3D® System was recognized as a 2009 Best of Tests Winner by Network World and Sourcefire was named to the Deloitte Fast 500 list, recognizing the company's growth over the last five years. In addition, Martin Roesch was named one of eWeek's Top 100 Most Influential People in IT.
