Risk Management Specialists Support Romanian Children

Pentura : 02 October, 2009  (Company News)
Reading business alliance including local company, Pentura is providing education equipment to support school in Romania
Pentura, a Reading based business providing information security risk management, has teamed up with local businesses throughout Reading to send children in Romania a selection of educational toys and sports equipment.

In July 2009, Pentura and Gazelle Couriers sent Romanian Children in the village of Bestepe toys and games, group-based equipment and educational tools to improve their quality of life. All of the gifts were given directly to local schools to ensure the gifts were going to the children who need them most.

Within the past few months a European Union grant has helped build an infant's school. However, there are no funds for educational tools, games, or books. All sports facilities are unusable after recent flooding and mud slides.

Steve Smith, managing director of Pentura comments, "My Brother is based in Romania. He explained to me the conditions that the children are taught in and we wanted to help. So far, three large boxes of gifts have been sent which have been well received."

Tim Harris, Business Development and Sales Team Manager of Gazelle Couriers comments, ""Pentura have been a loyal client of Gazelle for many years so when we were approached about possible involvement in this project, we were happy to see what contribution we could give. Clearly we could help play a role in getting the donated items over to school as economically as possible so a decision was made that we would help share the cost. It just seemed the right thing to do, given the children's circumstances. We are happy to have been involved in this project and will gladly give assistance in the future."

Bestepe has been hit by the closure of a local quarry, leaving 120 people of its 2,068 population out of work. A further 100 have left the village to work abroad. Unfortunately for Bestepe, as it is situated 4km from the river Danube, interest in tourism is minimal. It is the only village in the area without any kind of Bed and Breakfast or hotel.

Pentura and friends have sent along equipment to the school including, balls for football, rugby, tennis and basketball, cricket and baseball sets, books, whiteboards with markers, board games, clothes and footwear. The reaction to the package from the locals has been overwhelmingly positive. There are plans for a social centre, and it is thought that this first care package could be the catalyst to make this happen.
