RFID tamper revealing enclosures for Pelican containers

Mikoh : 18 March, 2008  (Application Story)
Container closure technology from Pelican products to adopt MIKOH tamper evident seals containing RFID technology for ease of tracking.
MIKOH has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Pelican Products to apply MIKOH's SecureContainer closure technology to Pelican cases.

The MIKOH partnership includes the manufacturing of SecureContainer closure devices for new Pelican cases, as well as the development of an aftermarket SecureContainer package to retrofit existing Pelican cases. The result enhances tamper evidence and physical security for Pelican cases sold within the government and commercial markets.

"Pelican cases are trusted to protect valuable cargo, both in storage and in transit, across a myriad of applications," said Lyndon Faulkner, president and CEO of Pelican Products. "Adding the option of MIKOH technology to our line of rugged cases meets customer requirements for enhanced protection against tampering, especially in high-security government applications."

The SecureContainer closure mechanism incorporates patented MIKOH technology, as well as intellectual property licensed from the US National Security Agency (NSA). The unique closure mitigates risk by providing a single, tamper-evident point of entry. Disposable plastic inserts slide into the closure device and are then secured to each other using tamper-evident seals. If the container is opened, the tamper-evident seal becomes damaged, alerting the container tracking system to potential product tampering or theft.

SecureContainer works with any pressure-sensitive security seal, but its true potential lies in combination with MIKOH's patented tamper-evident Smart&Secure RFID technology. Smart&Secure provides physical security certainty while also enabling high-speed automated tracking through its RFID functionality.

"Acceptance of MIKOH's technology is growing rapidly as organizations continue to realise the inherent value of providing certainty that sensitive cargo has not been compromised," said Matthew Blomfield, CEO for MIKOH. "MIKOH's partnership with Pelican extends our reach, as well as the value of our technologies, through packaged solutions designed specifically for current market applications and demand."

Under terms of the MOU, MIKOH and Pelican enter a partnership that includes manufacturing of the closure devices by Pelican. MIKOH gains the right to sell Pelican cases equipped with the SecureContainer closure as a channel partner, while Pelican can now market MIKOH SecureContainer closures and aftermarket retrofit packages.
