Respiratory Equipment On Show At German Police Exhibition

Avon Protection : 22 April, 2010  (New Product)
Avon Protection is attending the GPEC event in Leipzig displaying the company's range of respiratory protection equipment
Respiratory Equipment On Show At German Police Exhibition
Avon Protection, a part of Avon Rubber, is to give visitors of the General Police Equipment Exhibition and Conference (GPEC) in Leipzig, Germany, the perfect opportunity to gain first-hand experience of its full range of respiratory protection systems.

On show will be many specialist users' first choice of respiratory system, Avon's unique CE approved FM53 mask. The FM53 is the only mask of its kind, offering users the highest levels of versatility, comfort and protection against traditional chemical and biological warfare agents, select Toxic industrial Materials (TIMs) and particulate matter. Its unique shape allows for the easy incorporation of a helmet interface, as well as a drinking system that is capable of drawing half a litre of water in three minutes for rehydration purposes. A range of accessories are also available, including robust and flexible visor attachments for high intensity light situations and extreme environments, and a voice projection unit that offers clear audible speech between operatives. It is currently being trialled by a number of European police forces.

For those wanting lasting protection in more specialist environments, Avon has developed the ST53 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) system. This system is now the first choice of Special Forces and SWAT teams, offering them the highest levels of protection in a changing threat scenario. It enables the user to change between negative (filter mode) and positive pressure (supplied air) capability at the switch of a lever, therefore improving response times by taking out the need to leave the scene of an incident to change protective equipment. It is the only CBRN respiratory solution that is able to operate in oxygen deficient environments, such as smoke filled buildings. As a result, the ST53 is the most technically advanced respiratory system on the marketplace today, and is due to receive CE approval later on this year making it even more accessible to sectors such as the police and emergency services.

Alongside these masks, Avon will also be showcasing its NIOSH approved NH15 Emergency Hood, the first choice of the 2010 Winter Olympics security teams. It is the ideal companion for groups such as the emergency services and fire officers who need instant protection to escape from a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) situation quickly and efficiently. The clear material the hood is designed from allows for a wide and clear view of the scene as well as easy recognition of colleagues and the injured. It also protects the user against all airborne CBRN threats and from liquid agent splashes. Overall, the NH15 gives the user a high level of respiratory, eye and face protection for a minimum of 15 minutes, allowing time to evacuate contaminated areas. It is currently standard issue to some UK ambulance crews and emergency services personnel, such as the Metropolitan Police Forces.

Matt Evans, Sales & Marketing Director at Avon Protection explains: "Over the last ten years, the changing nature of today's terrorist threat has meant an increase in the need for CBRN based personal protection by the likes of the police and emergency services. This is because the potential for a terrorist attack on things like commercial properties and general public infrastructure using chemical or radiological agents has unfortunately become more likely, and therefore has to be planned for. This, and the ever increasing ease with which a terrorist can acquire chemical warfare agents and other dangerous chemicals, means it is not just the military who need to be ready.

"Here at Avon, we know what is required by those on the frontline, and have developed and manufactured our respiratory protective equipment accordingly. As visitors to our stand will see, our masks and hoods are the best on the market, offering users' high levels of protection, comfort and durability in the harshest of environments. It is this constant attention to detail that makes Avon the number one for respiratory protective equipment."
