Removable storage for digital video recorders

Tandberg Data : 14 November, 2008  (New Product)
RDX Quikstor provides reliable USB connected storage option for use with digital video recorders
Wavelet Technology, the manufacturer of the Wavestore range of Digital Video recorders, announces that its new software release enables Wavestore customers to use Tandberg Data's RDX QuikStor as a removable storage solution.

Tandberg Data's RDX QuikStor provides rugged, reliable, and convenient storage for backup, archive, data interchange and disaster recovery. Where sections of recorded video are required to be retained, the RDX QuikStor can be connected to the USB port of either the Wavestore server or a remote client PC.

The benefits of using the RDX QuikStor with Wavestore is that as a Plug and Play solution it can be utilised as a removable hard drive (in neat, removable, pocket-sized cartridges). For instance the RDX QuikStor can be used to record the alarm events from a range of cameras over a specific period and store that data for a period of time in the event that the data relevant to an incident needs to be reviewed. With Wavestore's Linux operating system access is almost instantaneous, allowing direct access to data on the cartridge, just as with any other hard drive. The RDX drives are tough, and cartridges are shockproof and rugged enough to last for over 10 years, so knocks and drops don't mean lost data.

Wavelet Technology selected the Tandberg Data solution because of its excellent design, quality technical specification, and rugged shock proof design. The RDX QuikStor combines the simplicity of tape based backup with the speed and instant access of a hard drive with removable cartridges in a range of capacities. The cartridges are available in 80, 160, 320 or 500GB capacity.

Previous Wavestore designs with CD and DVD featured read/write options, where selected video and audio clips could be backed up. Now Wavestore recorders can be supplied with the Tandberg RDX QuikStor as a Plug and Play option or installed as an internal drive, enabling the data cartridge to be securely retained away from the recording platform against the possibility of critical data being overwritten.
