Remote Unified Threat Management

Stonesoft Networks : 04 November, 2008  (New Product)
FW-310 firewall from Stonesoft includes threat intrusion prevention for remote offices enabling UTM to be deployed throughout enterprises with distributed locations
Stonesoft complements its StoneGate product family by introducing a UTM (Unified Threat Management) solution for remote locations. Available as an integral part of the new StoneGate FW-310 firewall appliance, StoneGate UTM protects corporate networks from multiple threats and secures the information flow of even the most remote offices.

Today, remote offices require direct Internet connections and employees want to use free Webmail accounts for private communication. However, as those connections do not go through corporate anti-virus checking, they pose a security threat to the company. The StoneGate UTM solution offers comprehensive protection against inbound and outbound attacks. The solution provides anti-virus checking for Web traffic and e-mail in the local firewall and protects remote office clients against contamination.

"We have noticed that remote offices have certain needs and requirements that are often beyond the scope of centralised security solutions. For example, the people working at remote offices often travel a lot, which means that their laptops are not timely patched and therefore face a much higher risk of getting contaminated. StoneGate UTM can prevent infected laptops from spreading the virus contamination outside of the remote office, thus mitigating liability risk", explains Klaus Majewski, Vice President of Marketing at Stonesoft.

"StoneGate UTM ties nicely together virus protection and intrusion prevention for Web traffic, e-mail and VoIP", continues Majewski. "Protection for that traffic could be done centrally in one location, but experience has shown that remote offices prefer direct access to the Internet."

The StoneGate UTM solution adds yet another layer of protection to the security system, making sure even the most remote offices are protected from viruses and intrusions. With StoneGate UTM, direct Internet access, free Webmail usage and unpatched remote office systems no longer pose security threats to organisations.
