Commtouch and Conduit have announced the release of the Site Control app, an application that secures the Web browsing of Conduit users. Conduit is the largest network of web and mobile app publishers with over 260,000 customers and 230 million users, powering mobile and web apps, and toolbars for companies such as Groupon, Major League Baseball, The Weather Channel, and TechCrunch. Based on Commtouch’s GlobalView URL Filtering solution, Site Control warns users when they visit potentially harmful websites.
“Site Control makes it possible for users to receive immediate and continuous alerts about the sites they are visiting because the app has a persistent presence in the browser window,” said Dror Erez, Founder and CTO of Conduit. “Users can surf the web with peace of mind because Commtouch’s GlobalView URL Filtering technology within the Site Control app warns users when they search or browse to potentially dangerous websites, such as phishing sites, sites containing drive-by downloads, and many other Web-borne threats.”
The Site Control browser application, built on the Conduit Platform and powered by Commtouch, lets users know when they surf to a potentially harmful website. Color-coded visual indicators and browser notifications alert users to the threat level of the site they are visiting. Configurable settings enable users to customize the type of alert they wish to receive based on the different threat levels; and, users can submit their own suggestions of how a particular web site should be categorized directly through the app. Site Control also scans search engine results pages, placing a color-coded icon next to each link to indicate its threat level.
“Malicious websites pose a great risk, yet most users do not have any Web protection installed,” said Ofer Tal, Commtouch’s vice president international business development and sales. “We’re happy to be working with Conduit to make Commtouch’s security technology available to the broad Conduit Network and provide it with a safe browsing experience.”
Commtouch’s GlobalView URL Filtering solution makes use of its unique cloud-based infrastructure to provide unprecedented real-time coverage of the Web and zero-hour threat protection. The solution excels at categorizing today’s Web 2.0 user generated content sites.
Site Control is available for download from the Conduit App Marketplace for users and publishers looking to enhance the toolbars they provide their user base. The app works with all major browsers.
