Railway visualisation system with Barco video wall.

Barco : 06 March, 2008  (Application Story)
Belgian railways now use rear projection video wall for signal boxes for the visualisation of traffic.
Siemens and Barco have announced the successful implementation of a Barco rear projection video wall system in the first traffic signaling centre of Infrabel. Infrabel is the administrator of the Belgian railway network. The implementation fits in Infrabel's project to modernise the Belgian railway's signaling boxes. In this project Infrabel, Siemens and Barco are working closely together for the realisation of video walls. Barco and Siemens will take responsibility for the study, supply, installation and maintenance of the planned 21 rear projection video walls. Completion is due by 2012.

"Infrabel aims to establish optimal safety across the Belgian railway infrastructure", said Infrabel's CEO Luc Lallemand. "The visualisation of the Belgian rail network using this large-size display system constitutes a key part of the implementation of our safety standards, as it enables collaborative decision making based on a single overview of the network's state."

"Siemens visualisation system EBP (Elektronische Bedien posten - Poste a Logique Programmee) is installed progressively in the signal boxes at Infrabel since 1992. The EBP system serves the operators with the necessary information and tools on standard monitors for guiding the rail-traffic correctly", said Pol Caby, Business Unit Manager Transportation Systems - Intelligent Traffic Solutions, at Siemens. "The video-wall is rapidly integrated thanks to the flexibility of the EBP system architecture and Barco's open interfaces."

"Barco's modular traffic monitoring solution supports Infrabel's vision to build a future-proof infrastructure that offers the flexibility to grow. - a vision that proofs today's professionalism of the Belgian railway operator", said Stephan Heirbrant, Sales Manager Benelux at Barco's Security & Monitoring Division. Mr Heirbrant continued, "The selection by Infrabel further underlines Barco's position as a leading supplier of 24/7 mission-critical display systems for traffic monitoring centres."

Barco's traffic monitoring solution is an advanced visualisation solution for traffic monitoring and control. The company's OverView D series integrate cutting edge DLP technology into video wall systems that are designed and optimized for use in a 24/7 mission-critical environments.. The latest generation graphic controllers, combined with universal decoders, allow for virtually unlimited integration of data and video sources into one comprehensive overview.

Siemens EBP system is delivering the necessary information's and images to the Barco system. The EBP system is a development entirely done by Siemens Belgium in close collaboration with Infrabel and is using fault redundant computers with very high availability that guarantees continuous operation of the system. The system works closely together with Alstom interlocking systems which ensure all safety rules and interfacing.
