Qualification approvals for security professionals.

Skills For Security : 08 March, 2007  (Company News)
National occupational standards now available from Skills for Security for CCTV operators, security consultants and risk advisers.
The security sector's standards setting body Skills for Security has announced that the new suites of National Occupational Standards for Security Consultants, Security Risk Advisors and CCTV Operators, which it developed in partnership with leading sector employers, have now been approved by the United Kingdom Co-ordinating Group. This group acts on behalf of the qualification regulators for the four nations. These new standards will join the CViT and Security Dog Handling standards, approved in January on the National Occupational Standards Directory.

Stefan Hay, Director of Business Development and Communication said: "Naturally we are delighted at the progress that is being made by our Standards Development Manager, Ruth Oliver and the enthusiastic sector employer expert groups she is working with. Skills for Security's contribution to the National Occupational Standards Directory is now very significant and clearly demonstrates the growing political, social and economic importance of our sector. These new standards are also essential to our plans for the Register of Security Professionals, which we intend to launch, together with the Security Institute, at IFSEC 2007. "

The standards are the result of extensive national industry consultation, with hundreds of organisations and individuals.

Expert group member David Gill, Managing Director of Linx International, Security & Risk Management Consultancy said; "The development of these standards has involved extensive input from an array of industry expertise across the spectrum of Security and Risk Management and provides a professional benchmark essential to those entering the sector, existing security practitioners and end users. The involvement of so many industry experts supporting Skills for Security in the development process, demonstrates the sector's commitment to establishing a standard that is fit for purpose and provides a positive response towards delivering a professional standard for the industry. One of the key objectives of the Security Industry Authority is to raise standards across the industry and deliver significant improvements to those relying on the quality and professionalism of the sector; I believe these standards will be an essential factor in helping to achieve this."

All National Occupational Standards developed by Skills for Security, on behalf of the sector, are freely available on the National Occupational Standards Directory
