Professional register for security professionals launched at IFSEC.

Skills For Security : 29 May, 2007  (Company News)
Validation and acceptance on the register of security professionals enhances reputation and improves overall quality of security service.
Skills for Security (SfS) and the Security Institute (SyI) have used IFSEC 2007 and its Security Management Seminar Theatre as the ideal platform to launch their first major partnership initiative: the Register of Security Professionals (RSP).

The RSP, which will have many interactive functions, is designed to provide a credible means by which individuals operating at supervisory management level and above can demonstrate their professionalism and competency through assessment against relevant National Occupational Standards, their personal commitment to individual CPD as security professionals and to the provision of quality services within the Security Business Sector.

In addition to the launch, seven RSP founding members: Bill Wyllie, SyI Chairman, Lord Stevens of Kirkwhelpington, SyI Patron & SfS Chairman and SyI Fellows David Dickinson, Mike Bluestone, Stefan Hay, Dai Prichard and Stuart Lowden were awarded with their membership certificates.

Di Thomas, SyI General Manager said: "It is clear that there is significant synergy between the aims and objectives of the Security Institute and those of Skills for Security. Since its formation the Security Institute has operated a Validation Board that scrutinises all applications. Many hundreds of applications have now been peer reviewed by senior Institute Members and Fellows. It is because of this combination of experience of validation of professional achievement, together with the means of applying this to individuals of diverse backgrounds operating within a specialised environment, that the Validation Board is well placed to complement the competency assessment against National Occupational Standards undertaken by Skills for Security".

In addition to the many benefits of existing SyI membership, registrants will also benefit from the inclusion in an authoritative, and publicly available, register that will list registrant's definitive qualifications and areas of competence and in the second phase the RSP will have a fully managed CPD service. Registrants will also automatically qualify for individual membership of the Sørensen Centre.
Stefan Hay, Director of Business Development and Communication at Skills for Security said: "We believe, that the Register of Security Professionals will become the driving force behind CPD in our sector and that this, combined with the facilities at the Sorensen Centre and the drive and enthusiasm of the team at Skills for Security, will assist the Security Institute in its strategic objective to become a Chartered Institute".
