BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT has launched a range of Career Paths as part of its goal to provide IT professionals with comprehensive career support. This is part of a larger project to enhance its professional development products, services and certifications. The project also includes the launch of the “BCS Professional Certifications”.
Michiel van der Voort, BCS Director International and Professional Development explains: “Following consultation with IT professionals, employers, industry experts and training providers, we are repositioning our certifications to the BCS Professional Certifications portfolio. This is to ensure our certifications portfolio is aligned with our IT skills and competency framework, SFIAplus, and other services from the Institute, enabling us to provide IT professionals with more comprehensive and valuable career support.”
The new initiative, which will take place over the coming months, sees a range of new elements including:
BCS career paths – a new online tool which enables individuals to track career paths aligned to SFIAplus, BCS membership grades and professional certifications a new certification website area providing improved functionality and navigation, including dedicated areas for training providers, IT professionals and employers new and updated professional certifications
online examinations system - The new BCS Career Paths show individuals what they need to do and consider as they are planning their career and their future development. The individual BCS career paths provide support for IT professionals progressing within a particular area of IT. They include information on appropriate certifications to undertake, how they align to BCS’ member grades and the IT skills and competency framework, SFIAplus.
The following Career Paths are now available, additional subject areas will be added in the coming months:
* IT governance and information security
* Project management and support
* Business analysis
* Solution development and architecture
* Software testing
* IT service management & ITIL
Michiel concludes: “The development of the BCS Career Paths is a clear demonstration of our new positioning. It was instigated to ensure we are providing IT professionals with the career guidance they deserve. Understanding what you need to do to advance in your chosen career is very important. Ambition can take you so far, but having the right skills, gaining the right professional certificates, networking, managing your career and professional development are all important aspects to consider when planning where you want to be.”
