Portable imaging system for body scanning delivered to army

Brijot Imaging Systems : 21 May, 2008  (Application Story)
ScanPort screening system offers the US army a portable scanning capability for use at ports for both hand baggage and personnel screening
Brijot Imaging Systems has announced that the Third US army/US armed forces central command (ARCENT), has accepted delivery of Brijot ScanPort, an engineered security solution that optimises the Brijot GEN 2 technology in a rugged, portable whole body imaging system for use in extreme environments.

ScanPort was conceived in response to the army's request for a system to manage people screening at standoff locations as a prerequisite for entrance to secured military bases. The military's extreme outdoor locations posed a challenge in deploying screening technology in a way that achieved standoff, remote monitoring, and detected improvised explosive device (IED) suicide bombs on the body and in hand carried baggage without endangering security personnel. Brijot met the challenge by introducing a container concept that is quickly deployed, screens people and baggage, and provides a platform to emplace other advanced force protection technologies.

ScanPort consists of a standard 20-foot ISO shipping container that contains two GEN 2 whole body imaging systems, providing simultaneous front and back real-time screening and concealed object detection. ScanPort is equipped as a fully automated access control system with electronically locked entry and exit doors operated by programmable logic control (PLC), air conditioning, lighting, and an X-ray baggage scanner. The nerve centre for ScanPort is a customised Security Operations Centre that is monitored remotely at a safe distance from imminent threats.

Brijot's ability to devise a custom solution was well-received by the army. The shared venture required that Brijot provide perimeter access control for detection of threat objects in a standoff mode. This endeavour yielded a prototype that Brijot, with continued US Army collaboration, developed from concept to completion of the ScanPort product. ScanPort's self-contained design is a turn-key, transportable threat detection system that can be deployed virtually anywhere in remote world locations that are accessible by truck, cargo aircraft, or heavy lift helicopter.

"We are proud to deliver this solution. The ScanPort product implements our advanced millimeter wave technology in the challenging military environment while, simultaneously, providing a platform for integration of other technologies used at access control points such as surveillance, biometrics, and other sensors," stated Troy Techau, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the US army and noted biometrics expert who is now Brijot's Vice President of Business Development.

As the foundation for a truly integrated checkpoint solution, ScanPort also facilitates opportunities for layered security in commercial environments. Future ScanPort products with options for biometric identification, day/night vision exterior cameras and other sensors, such as vapor trace detection, offer potential benefits to petrochemical plants, sporting event venues or control at any perimeter access checkpoint. Brijot's ScanPort container solution offers a way to standardise screening processes and strengthen existing security.
