Policy Driven Key Management Server from PGP

PGP (GB) : 24 February, 2010  (New Product)
Large International Organisations can now make use of open enterprise key and certificate management using the new PGP Key Management Server
PGP has announced the availability of its new PGP Key Management Server, which delivers open enterprise key and certificate management to global organisations. Enterprises today are struggling to manage the vast amount of keys and certificates that they have collected over the years while trying to address new data breach legislation and comply with industry regulations. With today's announcement, global enterprises will be able to address often disparate key management systems with the new PGP Key Management Server and its strong management and policy capabilities and interoperability with third party applications, all based on industry standards. PGP Corporation is also announcing an upgrade to the PGP Universal Server which will provide support for the widest range of computing platforms as well as performance, policy and operational enhancements.

Deployment and the need to manage encryption technology has grown dramatically over the past several years as hard drives, servers, databases, smartphones and flash drives virtually all come provisioned with encryption. Additionally, SSL certificates are ubiquitous in server and cloud environments, and bring their own set of administrative challenges. Each new encryption product introduces yet another set of key management responsibilities that compound the administrative overhead and cost for IT and security departments. The PGP Key Management Server 3.0 provides enterprises with a unified enterprise key management platform that is essential for streamlining security operations and providing the highest level of data protection.

"Key management has become a huge challenge for large enterprises, government organisations and other institutions that can no longer approach security 'one device' at a time. Instead they need a cross platform, trusted data protection strategy," said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO at PGP Corporation. "Managing a handful of encryption keys is one thing, but when organisations get more sophisticated and start to encrypt multiple laptops, smartphones, drives, servers and tapes, the task can become daunting. Our customers have been looking for a complete approach to key management that addresses data protection in a strategic manner."

The PGP Key Management Server provides organisations with the infrastructure and tools to manage large scale deployments of encryption keys and certificates for multiple applications while delivering a broad approach to managing encryption. The PGP Key Management Server provides a versatile foundation to centralise management of encryption throughout the enterprise to help organisations take control over their encryption keys, strengthen security, and reduce operational cost. Key features in this release include:

* Support for heterogeneous environments

- Asymmetric, Symmetric and Proprietary Keys
- Architected for multi-protocol support (KMIP, OPAL, IEEE 1619.3, PKCS 11)
- Support for desktops, servers, and devices

* Out of the Box, automated management and deployment for certificates

- Provisioning and lifecycle management including expiration dates and renewal
- SSL, VPN, Wireless Access, etc.

* Generalised automation agent

- Simple integration on 30+ operating system versions

The PGP Universal Server enhancements address a wide range of infrastructure and usability concerns that global organisations struggle with when securing their users, disperse systems and sensitive customer and corporate data. With this latest release of the PGP Universal Server, IT and security administrators gain more choice and benefit from enhanced policy and scalability improvements that will assist them with their daily operational duties. New benefits in this release of the PGP Universal Server include:

* More choice - As "consumerisation" proliferates in corporate settings, PGP solutions address the widest range of supported endpoint platforms including Ubuntu, Red Hat, and Snow Leopard with Boot Camp Support as well as language and keyboard support for global deployments.

* Enhanced policy and compliance options - Controls that let security, compliance and risk teams leverage centralised policy as well as the ability to enforce policy when users are offline. Administrators can also use PGP Universal Server to provision "Encrypt and Sign" buttons to PGP Desktop Email users who need manual methods to demonstrate intent for compliance requirements.

* Improved performance - With the PGP Hybrid Cryptographic Optimizer Technology - AES 128/256-bit cryptography users now experience up to 40% faster performance(1).

* IT operations assist - Increased automation can provide for reduced help desk calls and more cost-effective deployments, including the ability for IT to set up Windows users silently and end-users to perform "self-recovery" of forgotten passphrases.

The PGP Key Management Server and PGP Universal Server will begin shipping on March 3, 2010. PGP Universal Server is priced per seat managed. PGP Key Management Server is priced per client managed, with an initial server license component.
