Security company Pilgrims Group has recognised its most outstanding team members in the annual Manned Guarding Awards
Pilgrims Manned Guarding Award Results
Security and Risk Management expert Pilgrims Group held the company's third annual Manned Guarding Awards this spring; proudly rewarding its security officers for their dedication and commitment throughout the past year.

The ceremony was held to commend those who have been recognised as making the greatest contribution in performing services to Pilgrims' clients within its Manned Guarding sector.

Pilgrims' contracts and operations managers once again faced the challenging task of singling out exemplary candidates from the many Pilgrims guards who every day go 'above and beyond' their day-to-day duties.

David Freear, Operations Director of Pilgrims, presented the awards, which were divided regionally, ranking nominees into Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. The winners of each region then qualified for a place in the national awards to compete for 'Security Officer of the Year'.

The judging panel assessed nominees on their skills shown throughout the past year, with criteria including proactiveness, reliability, level of achievement, commitment, added value and adjustment to their environment. On the day, all nominees were invited to play nine holes of golf at Hoebridge Golf Club, in Surrey, before attending a formal lunch followed by an awards ceremony in the evening.

Security Officer Thaman Gurung has exemplified the kind of commitment and hard work seen every day in Pilgrims' Security Officers throughout the past year. His efforts earned him both the Regional South and National Gold awards this year. John Rowse picked up the national Silver award with Abdul Shaikh the Bronze.

In the past year, Thaman has developed systems to enhance checks made on Health and Safety equipment. He has been extremely flexible throughout the year, covering additional shifts and changing his pattern where required in order to maintain contractual obligations. For the second winter running he stayed at the YMCA, close to site, during adverse weather conditions. On both occasions, he didn't need to be asked, he arrived on site with a kit bag when hearing there may be snow. David Freear explains: "Thaman views his position as key to delivering a first class service to our client, Sanofi-Aventis. This is done purely on his own initiative and shows true qualities and commitment, both to Pilgrims and the customer."

In addition to the individual awards, each region nominated a number of teams to be put forward for the "Best Team of the Year Award", judged on their outstanding motivation, enthusiasm, teamwork and communication throughout the past year.

Pilgrims' Manned Guarding team at Sanofi-Aventis, Guildford, received this award in acknowledgement of the guards' efforts throughout the year and deserved recognition for the support the team delivers to the client.

Sanofi-Aventis' Head of Facilities and Health and Safety, said: 'I'm delighted that our security team has received the recognition they deserve. They are to be commended for their positive attitude in supporting the work of Sanofi-Aventis, their handling of protest situations, suspect telephone calls and the many other duties they all manage in such a positive and proactive way. I hope everyone will join me in congratulating Thaman Gurung, Lee Slade, Joe Gough and Peter Hannant on their awards.'

Pilgrims' Managing Director, Bill Freear, said: "Awards like this are important. Within the Manned Guarding industry many of the big companies only focus on problem areas. Within Pilgrims we recognise and reward good service, ideas and achievements as they happen. This can be as simple as a telephone call or letter from the Operations Management team; however this does not allow time for formal recognition. For this reason, we make note of all outstanding achievements that take place throughout the year and the winners are formally invited to attend the awards ceremony. We're extremely proud of our team."
