Peoplesafe chosen by Rooftop Housing

Rocksure Systems : 16 October, 2008  (Application Story)
GPS and checking-in capabilities differentiate Peoplesafe lone worker protection system from competition in selection trials by Rooftop Housing
Rocksure System's Peoplesafe service has been chosen by community based housing group, Rooftop Housing, after a rigorous selection process that involved eleven suppliers of lone worker protection devices and their backup services. Chosen for its innovative technology and outstanding support, Rocksure Systems has supplied Rooftop Housing with its lone worker service that includes the Peoplesafe device, operator response, tracking, training, configuration, monitoring and ongoing support.

Prior to exploring the range of devices now available for lone worker support, Mark Jackson, Facility and Health & Safety Manager at Rooftop Housing, carried out a detailed risk assessment to ascertain the potential hazards facing the Group's personnel. Armed with this information, he then investigated a range of products that included GPS, handheld devices, armbands and Peoplesafe.

"We invited 11 companies to present their products to us and they were assessed by a team of people from the Group who regularly work alone," said Mark Jackson. "Following the presentations we invited three companies to carry out trials which involved assessing GPS systems, mobile phones and Peoplesafe".

GPS systems were quickly discounted as it was found that there was no signal to support the units when the user was inside. Mobile phones were felt to be too difficult to use in an emergency and could be knocked out of someone's hand. Peoplesafe came out on top as the most unobtrusive, effective and easy-to-use lone worker device.

"One of my main concerns was the level of support that would be given by a supplier. I wanted our managers to be able to concentrate on their work and not have to worry about personnel in the field unless there was a problem", continued Mark Jackson. "During the trial Rocksure's monitoring centre dealt with five false alarms without contacting a manager whilst another company notified us every time an alarm was triggered accidentally. In addition Rocksure Systems also provided us with detailed weekly reports on connectivity, usage, etc. which was extremely informative".

Staff trying the Peoplesafe service made particular reference to the fact that when they were entering a potentially hazardous situation and pressed the device's 'checking in' button it provided them with reassurance knowing that they were being monitored. If the wearer then has cause to press the red alert, operators at Rocksure's remote monitoring centre retrieves the information on their locality, listens in on the line to what is happening and co-ordinates the appropriate emergency support - involving the police if necessary.

"Personnel in all areas of the company are using the Peoplesafe service including our Chief Executive, Housing Officers, Scheme Managers, Building Inspectors and HR personnel", concluded Mark Jackson. "They all now have the reassurance of knowing if they have an accident or are faced with a potentially volatile situation they have the means to raise the alarm," concluded Mark Jackson

A leading supplier of lone worker protection to housing associations, Rocksure Systems is also supplying its Peoplesafe service to a spectrum of other markets. These include retail staff, security personnel, sales negotiators, financial advisors, estate agents and maintenance technicians.
