Penetration Testing For Application Developers

Pentura : 11 January, 2011  (New Product)
Pentura's new secure application development service provides penetration testing expertise to software developers and consultancies
Pentura has launched a new service to support secure application development.  The Secure SDLC service allows organisations to proactively manage the risk posed by internal and external software development through an end to end process of policy consultancy, education, automated code analysis and manual application penetration testing.

The new Secure SDLC service will assist customers to create a Software Security Assurance Policy allowing them to define a methodology for implementing applications securely.

Customers will have access to cloud based vulnerability scanning tools to verify the quality of the application’s security throughout the software development lifecycle without the need for source code files.  This ensures issues are addressed in a controlled and manageable way, improving the capability of application projects to deliver against agreed objectives.

The service is instantly scalable and offers unlimited global reach for customers to measure compliance with their software assurance policy without the cost of additional infrastructure or support.

Pentura are able to assess the quality of the application’s security to highlight where developers may require further education.  This is addressed with web based secure programming modules combined with classroom training allowing organisations to enable better productivity and improve security in future development.

Steve Smith, Managing Director at Pentura, said: “Although applications are used on a day-to-day basis many organisations are distracted by commercial pressures to deliver feature rich applications, and security, although a necessity, often is not built into the SDLC early enough.

Smith continues, “Throughout the past six years we have conducted manual penetration testing against thousands of applications. Pentura is encouraging customers to build security testing into the development cycle from day one to reduce the number of vulnerabilities found at the manual application testing stage; therefore helping deliver secure applications on time and within budget.”
