PDF mapping solution for agriculture department

TerraGo Technologies : 16 July, 2008  (Application Story)
TerraGo wins US agricultural department contract for presenting geospatial information in PDF format to help in crop analysis
TerraGo Technologies has been named as the Prime Vendor Contract for the US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agriculture Service, Office of Global Analysis (OGA).

Under the contract, managed by ASRC Management Services, TerraGo will be providing the USDA’s crop analysts with its advanced tools and technology to convert complex geospatial information into interactive, user-friendly geo-enabled PDFs. TerraGo’s geospatial solutions will enable analysts in the field to build and deliver GeoApps in collaboration with other professionals to ensure that all personnel have the most up-to-date, accurate geospatial information available to them.

“Customers like the USDA benefit from TerraGo’s complete end-user focus and unmatched GeoApp expertise, as well as geospatial data source independence, and we are enthusiastic about the potential this contract brings to the agency,” said Richard Cobb, president and CEO, TerraGo Technologies. “Our technology makes it cost effective for organizations like the USDA to build and deliver geospatial applications to anyone, anywhere, making end users of GIS data more efficient and effective.”

The Office of Global Analysis of the USDA FAS is responsible for global crop condition assessments and estimates of area, yield and production for grains, oilseeds and cotton. The primary mission of OGA is to target, collect, analyze and disseminate timely, objective, useful and cost-effective global crop condition and agricultural market intelligence information. One of OGA’s key missions is to provide unbiased commodity estimates and forecasts to create a marketing edge for US producers in world markets. Robert Tetrault, USDA FAS satellite archive manager states, “the use of TerraGo’s geospatial solutions allows the analysts to speed up their work flow and communication process, especially when facing stringent monthly reporting deadlines.”

“TerraGo works with numerous federal government agencies and departments to provide both GIS experts and non-GIS professionals with advanced geospatial tools and technology,” said Howard Klayman, director of federal programs, TerraGo Technologies. “This contract with the USDA demonstrates how TerraGo’s tools and technology can help government agencies meet the needs of taxpayers by providing personnel with accurate geospatial information no matter their location.”
