PCI criteria passed by VeriFone Vx range.

VeriFone : 13 February, 2008  (New Product)
Secure payments via PIN entry using Vx payment systems meet EAL4 criteria for use in the UK.
VeriFone Holdings has achieved Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4) for its Vx Solutions payment systems, including the Vx 670, Vx 570, Vx 610 and Vx 510. The UK Common Criteria certification also covers VeriFone's SC 5000 consumer-facing PIN entry device. VeriFone offers a total of nine products in its portfolio, including attended and unattended devices, which have been successfully evaluated against the stringent PIN Entry Device (PED) Protection Profile defined by APACS, the UK payments association.

Assurance under Common Criteria EAL4 has been mandated by APACS as a supplement to the existing PCI PED (Payment Card Industry PIN Entry Device) requirements, providing a very high level of security for PIN entry devices in use in the UK. It is a requirement for all PIN Entry Devices deployed in the UK to meet this standard.

The Common Criteria EAL4 security requirements evaluate the integrity of PED systems along the entire product life cycle, from design and development to production, product evolution and utilisation.

"VeriFone has always taken a leadership approach to security and mandates. This means ensuring that we comply with industry standards, often well before we are required to do so," said Nigel Bidmead, Managing Director of VeriFone EMEA. "As the leader in secure electronic payment technologies our role is to create peace of mind at the point of sale, and this additional security assurance under the Common Criteria is a continuation of that commitment to the UK market."

VeriFone provides the most complete range of PCI PED approved products including the industry's smallest all-in-one wireless handheld payment device, the Vx 670, and the Vx 570 countertop solution.
