Payne manufacturing facilities gain national certification

Payne Security : 09 October, 2009  (Company News)
Investors in People and Occupational Health and Safety certification for Payne's facilities in Nottingham and Banbury
Both of Filtrona plc's Coated & Security Products division's UK manufacturing sites have been awarded the nationally recognised Investors In People (IIP) standard and OHSAS (Occupational Health & Safety Advisory Services) 18001 certification. These achievements reflect the hard work undertaken by the company in providing employees with a flexible, responsive and safe work environment.

The Payne tear tape facility in Nottingham is the leading global manufacturer and supplier of high quality tear tape, used for the easy opening of consumer packaging. When printed these tapes are able to help companies promote and authenticate their brands. The Payne Security facility in Banbury is a leading provider of solutions for the document and identity markets, including secure laminates for National Identity documents and card based solutions for sectors such as health, education and transport.

The aim of OHSAS 18001 is to provide a framework for providing a safe and healthy working environment, requiring that comprehensive health and safety policies be integrated into the company's overall management system. A rigorous independent audit confirmed that both UK sites had met the necessary standards, allowing them to join fellow Payne tear tape facilities - Richmond, USA; Bangalore, India; and Surabaya, Indonesia - that are already accredited.

Auditors for IIP interviewed a random selection of employees across the sites to provide a full picture of the company. IIP identified the division's Learning and Development programme as a particular strength, while feedback regarding the company itself indicated excellent morale among employees, with many naming Payne/Payne Security as the best company they had worked for.

"This is an excellent achievement for Payne and Payne Security," comments Tony Edwards, Divisional Managing Director for Filtrona Coated & Security Products. "Not only does it recognise all of our employees' hard work over the years in maintaining the high standards everyone works to, but it also endorses our business direction and our company values."

Although IIP is a UK-specific standard, the division has also conducted similar assessments across all of its overseas tear tape facilities, styled on the IIP model, to match the global standardisation achieved through OHSAS. Payne North America, Latin America and Asia have now been awarded certificates to confirm their IIP standards. "As a global business, we feel that it is important that all of our employees are treated with the same degree of commitment towards personal development," confirms Tony Edwards.
