Partnerships expand deployment of software organiser

Business Continuity Services : 19 September, 2007  (Company News)
BCS enters partnership agreements relating to its software asset management product, Software Organiser.
Business Continuity Services (BCS) has entered into two new partnerships with specialists in the IT audit and software management space, SAM Practice and EasySAM. These two new signings come hot on the heels of four new partner announcements in June - two European SAM resellers were appointed and two UK complementary technology providers. In addition this announcement is well timed to coincide with the latest release of Software Organiser version 4.1.

Companies in the Software Asset Management space, dealing with complex software compliance and licence management projects on behalf of their customers, recognise the enormous benefits that Software Organiser can deliver and as a result the product is proving extremely popular with the reseller community. Software Organiser enables companies to qualify, assess, address and reduce the risk of non-compliance through the effective management and tracking of company software licences. The product offers huge market opportunities and BCS has signed up six new partners in the last three months alone. New partners include: SAM Practice, EasySAM, 413 Technologies, LANDesk Software, Infraview and Soluza.

"When you buy Software Organiser, you are not just buying a product to achieve licence compliance, you are buying into a company that listens and helps its partners at every opportunity said Andy Fisher, New Business Development Director at BCS. "We don't just sell an off-the-shelf product to our partners, we deliver a proven methodology, based on years of licence management experience. In addition we work closely with key technology vendors such as Microsoft to ensure we keep our partners abreast of the latest software licence issues. Software Organiser complements any auditing tool, enabling organisations to implement effective Software Asset Management (SAM) Programmes."

SAM Practice is an independent Software Asset Management service provider. The company offers a unique approach to SAM, resulting in substantial cost savings and risk reductions for those companies who are looking to get their IT estates in order.
Jason Allaway, CEO, SAM Practice explains why the company is partnering with BCS: "Non-compliance can be extremely costly. Organisations that are out of compliance not only have to settle up with the manufacturers, but they may also have to pay fines that can total in the region of £100,000 per infraction. You can therefore appreciate how important it is to get it right. SAM Practice understands software licensing and the processes and procedures required to effectively implement, run and maintain a robust Software Asset Management strategy. We focus on simplifying the management of licensing and use Software Organiser to help us achieve this."

EasySAM's Managing Director, Robbie Richmond has over twelve years experience in auditing, software management and licence reconciliation. Prior to setting up EasySAM, Robbie was Managing Director for Ensign Consulting, which sold software and services in the SAM space and was sold to IT reseller, Elcom in 2005.

"June 2007 saw the BSA (Business Software Alliance) fine a UK blue chip a record £250,000 for running unlicenced software, this shows compliance should be top of companies current IT agenda. Some resellers and vendors use SAM as a means of driving additional licence revenue, which has put a negative spin on licence management. EasySAM is focused on what customers really want which is to reduce their cost of ownership for licensing and stay legal. Software Organiser was the natural choice for us, not only is it a tried and tested technology but BCS has considerable experience in this market, so we are also buying into a methodology and a whole range of services that enable us to deliver an excellent licence management solution for our customers."

Software Organiser focuses on the recording and analysis of actual software licensing documentation, enabling customers to; establish and prove software licence compliance, successfully negotiate with software providers and efficiently manage software maintenance and renewals.

Software Organiser 4.1 was announced in September 2007 and provides customers with 80 new feature enhancements, improving usability and compatibility functionality in particular. The new features include a 'Compliance Eye', which allows you to view your compliance position at a glance. It also includes, 'an enhanced Software Import Wizard', which enables users to import top-up and full audits, in addition the new Wizard now supports the import of audit data from Microsoft Excel. This allows customers who have manually audited their servers to add this to their desktop invenntory at the click of a button. Additionally, the product is now Microsoft SQL 2005 compatible, with Vista compatibility planned for the end of the year.
