Partnership with Reliance Security brings award to Connexion2
It was celebrations all the way for South Yorkshire based Connexion2, the developer and manufacturer of the highly acclaimed Identicom lone worker protection device after winning the coveted 'Security Partnering Initiative of the Year' award in the 2009 Security Excellence Awards held at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London on Thursday, 22nd October. Comedian, Ronnie Corbett, and Andy Mayer, Area Manager, IFSEC South Africa, sponsors of the category made the presentation of the award to Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2.

Connexion2 won the award for its partnering initiative with Reliance Security Group on the rollout of 30,000 i750 Identicom alarms to NHS lone workers throughout the country. Collaboration by the two companies in the extensive trials, which involved the participation of 24 Trusts and PCTs, resulted in successful evaluation of the Identicom technology and the support services provided by Reliance. Due to the close partnership arrangement, the NHS has been able to receive a protection package for its lone worker employees for less than 33p per day.

A large number of entries were received for the award, which was whittled down to six finalists, which amongst others included Reliance High-Tech.

Making the award the judges said: "Partnering with the Reliance Security Group, Connexion2 rolled out 30,000 Identicom alarms to NHS lone workers throughout the UK. The judges were impressed with the cost effective rollout of this initiative making them worthy winners of the Security Partnering Initiative of the Year".

Accepting the award, Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2 said: "We are delighted that Identicom has won this award and made such an impression on the judges. Identicom is the preferred choice of many businesses and organisations to prevent verbal and physical abuse against their lone workers and help meet Health & Safety regulations."

Identicom looks like a standard ID holder but is equipped with mobile telephone technology. The device includes a lanyard attachment that enables it to be worn around the neck as a standard ID and hides a 'rip alarm' function, which is triggered if the unit is forcibly removed from the wearer.

If a worker feels threatened they discreetly push an alarm button, which sends a call for help to a remote centre. Any exchange between the worker and an assailant is also recorded, providing valuable, admissible evidence if a case is brought to court. The device can also support the pinpointing of a worker's location using GSM/LBS technology.
