Partnership To Bring Secure Mobile Technology To The Market

Sagem Wireless : 10 December, 2010  (Company News)
Entering a strategic partnership with ERCOM brings co-development expertise to Sagem Wireless for wireless mobile device protection
Sagem Wireless and ERCOM have announced a strategic partnership to co-develop and bring to market a new generation of secure mobile devices. The secure mobile devices will be the first to offer fully integrated protection against stolen terminals, eavesdropping of voice and SMS, and data theft through attacks via WiFi and Bluetooth. While existing solutions only offer add-on application for mass-market devices, the devices will offer embedded mobile security for voice, data and SMS.

Mobile security for voice and data is a growing concern for governments and corporations worldwide. Existing solutions provided by traditional IT companies are not optimised to leverage device and network evolution. Sagem Wireless and ERCOM have partnered to co-develop secure mobile devices that provide strong authentication and embedded Common Criteria certified security.

The two companies bring unique and synergistic expertise in security and mobile to the partnership and planned product roadmap. Joint R&D initiatives will enhance mobile security technologies and implementation architectures. The two companies will set up a joint sales channel for new mobile security products and plan to have advanced secure mobile products to market in the coming months.

"Mobile security, when it's done properly, requires a blend of network expertise, telecommunication protocols and cryptology. Being expert in just one or two of these areas simply isn't enough to deliver the level of embedded security in a device that secure communications demand and rely on," said Charles d'Aumale, European partner manager at ERCOM.

"Security breaches due to a lost device, a hacked WiFi connection or an eavesdropped call are a constantly increasing concern for government bodies, large enterprises and VIPs. However, it's not enough to simply lock-down a device. Secure communications is about integrating security into the very fabric and design of the device, so that the user knows that they are protected. Working with ERCOM, we can build on our own experience of integrating security features into a device and co-develop secure mobile devices that are truly fit-for-purpose," said Frédéric Farago, VP Professional Applications Business Unit at Sagem Wireless.
