Partnership focuses on prevention of losses through unauthorised connections.

PGP (GB) : 27 February, 2008  (Company News)
PGP and Lumension join forces to combine disk encryption with device control to create unrivalled unauthorised access prevention.
PGP Corporation has partnered with Lumension Security to deliver PGP Endpoint. This new solution prevents data loss through unauthorised devices, connections, and applications. PGP Endpoint is a centrally managed solution that integrates Lumension Security's Sanctuary Device and Application Control with PGP Whole Disk Encryption to protect data transferred or stored on portable devices. With PGP Endpoint, administrators easily establish and continuously enforce encryption security policies for device usage via USB, FireWire, WiFi, DVD/CD, and Bluetooth connections, preventing potential data loss. PGP Endpoint joins an award-winning family of applications that are part of the PGP Encryption Platform, enabling organisations to protect data throughout the enterprise while reducing the operational costs associated with point solutions.

"The troubling rise in data breaches exposing sensitive corporate, customer, and employee information demonstrates a need for enterprises to protect their data," said Eric Maiwald, VP and Service Director at Burton Group. "Sensitive data should be protected against unauthorised disclosure on desktops, notebooks, handheld devices, and removable media. Encryption (with proper key management and authentication) is one of the best ways for enterprises to protect sensitive data on these types of systems and devices."

In 2007, research conducted by the Ponemon Institute found the leading source of data breaches in both the United States and United Kingdom was the loss or theft of mobile devices, including portable storage devices such as USB flash drives and external hard drives. With the cost of data breaches averaging $197 and £47 per record respectively, the enforcement of device usage policy and protection of data transferred to removable storage is highly critical. Many organisations have only started to recognise this imperative, and have subsequently turned to data encryption and data loss prevention solutions only after experiencing a breach.

"Organisations are learning that to protect their businesses from the serious consequences of a data breach, they must protect the data itself: identifying data at risk, enforcing policy, and protecting data wherever it goes," said Phil Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. "In response to enterprise demand, PGP Corporation is partnering with Lumension Security to extend the PGP Encryption Platform to provide customers with another critical layer of data security and accelerate the protection of data throughout the enterprise."

PGP Endpoint is built on Lumension Security's Sanctuary Device and Application suite to help enforce endpoint device use and encryption policies to prevent data theft and loss. With PGP Endpoint, administrators can establish and enforce policies for device usage via USB, FireWire, WiFi, and Bluetooth connections, preventing potential data leakage. Administrators can review device usage logs and establish policies to monitor the content of data transferred to and from the device. When PGP Endpoint is used with PGP Whole Disk Encryption, administrators can enforce granular policies based on encryption of removable storage. In 2007, both PGP Whole Disk Encryption and Lumension Security's Sanctuary were named "Best Buy" by SC Magazine.

"Because data is the most valuable asset an IT department must secure, enterprises today must adopt a well-rounded data protection program that includes key technologies and techniques to defend data on endpoint machines, enforce policies, and safeguard content residing at rest or in motion," said Pat Clawson, Chairman and CEO of Lumension Security. "Today's announcement underscores the power of the integrated endpoint data protection solution and the importance of data security, confidentiality, integrity and availability made possible by PGP Endpoint"

PGP Endpoint delivers the following key benefits:

- Prevents Data Loss - Eliminates unauthorised access to data on PCs, laptops, tablet PCs, PDAs, portable devices, removable storage drives and USB media.
- Enforces Enterprise Encryption Policy - Enables administrators to require removable device encryption and automatically encrypt devices by policy by integrating with PGP Whole Disk Encryption.
- Audit Trail of all Actions - Organizations can log and prove that endpoints, devices and media are protected in with enterprise permissions, policies, and encryption.
