Organised Retail Crime Conference to be held in Denver

Universal Surveillance Systems : 08 May, 2009  (New Product)
Denver conference on retail crime to be sponsored by Universal Surveillance Systems
Universal Surveillance Systems will host the latest in a series of regional Organized Retail Crime Conferences to be held in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Four Points Sheraton from 8 am to 3 pm. The Federal Bureau of Investigation estimates the annual loss to retailers attributable to Organized Retail Crime (ORC) at $30 billion. This, combined with losses in tax revenue and its impact on consumer health and safety, point to ORC as a major threat to the American public.

"The capacity attendance we are experiencing at these regional events speaks to the significant negative economic and social impact of ORC," said Adel Sayegh, President and CEO of USS. "The Denver conference will have particular relevance for those concerned with the serious issue of e-fencing, the practice of selling stolen goods through online auction sites. We are extremely gratified to have eBay join the distinguished group of speakers to highlight its efforts to control the resale of stolen merchandise through its site. This is a major step forward as it brings together the representation from brick and mortar retail, ecommerce, government, and law enforcement communities needed to develop all-encompassing strategies to combat ORC."

The Denver Organized Retail Crime Conference has a diverse lineup of speakers that will present on many facets of ORC, including; legislative updates, boosting and credit fraud, e-fencing, and loss prevention strategies and technologies.

In addition to the keynote speaker, former Colorado State Representative, The Honorable Alice Borodkin, VIP speakers include:

* Jim Riesberg, Colorado State Representative, District 50
* Ken Prose, Senior Criminal Investigator, Denver District Attorney's Office
* Jonathan Grusing, Special Agent, FBI
* Mark Krause, Investigations, GAPTL, Target
* Stoney Burke, Supervisor PROACT, eBay.
* Steve McLain, Vice President Asset Protection, Sports Authority
* Adel Sayegh, President and CEO, USS Corporation

Experts in dealing with ORC from different retail companies and law enforcement / government agencies will also participate in an interactive Question & Answer panel session. Moderator Travis Johnson, Investigations Team Leader for Target, will be joined on the panel by officials from local police departments, the FBI, as well as retail representatives from Target and Walgreens. Panelists include:

* Ron Koziol, Asst. Section Chief / Violent Crime Section, FBI
* Detective Russ Johnson, Westminster Police Department
* Deputy Jim Brendle, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office
