Oracle vulnerabilities crucial to be patched

Imperva : 14 January, 2010  (Technical Article)
Quarterly patch bulletin from Oracle demands attention as database vulnerability could lead to data loss
Imperva CTO Amichai Shulman comments on the latest round of Oracle security patches

Oracle has released its quarterly security patches and this quarter saw a relative decline in total announced vulnerabilities with 24 issues.

"However, we again see a database vulnerability scoring 10 out of 10 in severity which would allow someone to completely takeover the database without the need of valid credentials. In addition, there are several other database vulnerabilities that only require database connection privileges in order to exploit. So overall, it seems that the severity of vulnerabilities is high," said Imperva's CTO, Amichai Shulman.

The patch also includes two other vulnerabilities that scored 10 out of 10, one for the Secure Backup product and the other one for the JRockit product. "The vulnerabilities in the SecureBackup product could allow confidential data to be exposed or it could be possible to even tamper with stored data," explained Shulman.
