Optical Character Recognition Features on Latest Forensic Toolkit

AccessData : 16 April, 2010  (New Product)
FTK from AccessData is now able to automatically examine the contents of TIFF and PDF files using optical character recognition technology
AccessData has announced the release of integrated optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities with their latest update of Forensic Toolkit (FTK). FTK is the industry-standard computer forensics technology, used by DOJ (Department of Justice) agencies, and AccessData's in-house eDiscovery solution is built on FTK technology. AccessData was rated 'Positive' in the 2009 Gartner MarketScope for E-Discovery Software Product Vendors published December 21, 2009 by Debra Logan et al.

Litigation support personnel are now able to index and search the text found in image files, such as PDFs and TIFFs, greatly enhancing their early case assessment capabilities and their ability to identify potentially relevant electronically stored information (ESI). Traditionally, an organization would have to use an external service provider, separate OCR tool or typically wait until later stages of the eDiscovery process to extract text from image files found on custodian machines, email servers, network shares and structured data repositories. However, with AccessData eDiscovery, litigation support personnel can collect ESI from custodian machines, email servers, network shares and structured data repositories, with a single solution, then seamlessly index all ESI, including image files such as PDFs and TIFFs, to perform the most effective search and analysis.

In addition to indexed searching, AccessData eDiscovery is also known for its ability to conduct pre-collection audits, allowing an organization to know exactly where all relevant data lives and what it looks like before it is collected. Using this functionality, an organization that chooses to collect only relevant data can refine its search criteria to ensure the most accurate collection. Even if an organization prefers to collect entire custodian machines, rather than performing targeted collection, this auditing capability allows an organization to effectively assess exposure immediately when litigation is anticipated.

Advanced index searching and pre-collection audits are just two of several advanced features delivered in AccessData eDiscovery. The solution maps to the EDRM and includes built-in litigation hold capabilities, allowing an organization to address the entire eDiscovery lifecycle with a single solution.
