Online security awareness course

ISACA : 29 October, 2008  (New Product)
ISACA and the SANS Institute are providing scholarships and security awareness courses to ISACA members who submit a white paper
The SANS Institute and ISACA London Chapter have announced a new initiative to increase security awareness, the first pilot scheme consists of an online security awareness course and a Scholarship for the best whitepaper written on Information Security and Governance/Assurance, considering the current economic. The SANS Institute is the largest source for information security training and certification in the world and ISACA is a global association serving more than 86,000 IT governance, security and assurance professionals. The "SANS ISACA CPE Initiative" is focused around Security Awareness and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits and supports the need for an IT professional to continue self education within their field in order to keep up-to-date with current trends, technologies and best practices. CPE credits are also required in order to maintain certain professional accreditations and this initiative rewards every ISACA member with 3 CPE credits for participating in an online Security Awareness course.

Every ISACA member will also have access to new and archived SANS Webcasts so they can expand their knowledge from the comfort of their own home or office. The GIAC STAR "Computer and Network Security Awareness" assessment is optional.

In addition, the SANS Institute (EMEA) is also offering a full professional course credit to an ISACA member in the form of the "SANS ISACA CPE Scholarship". A member may choose any course offered at any SANS training conference, for example "SANS London 2008" at the Excel Conference Center, where SANS is offering 16 tracks from "Security Essentials Bootcamp Style" and "Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking" to "Computer Forensics, Investigation and Response". Each course varies in length from 2 to 6 days and offers up to as many as 36 CPE credits and courses are worth up to £3000.

Any European ISACA member may gain the 3 CPE credits and view the Webcasts but must submit a white paper to ISACA to get the chance of receiving the "SANS ISACA CPE Scholarship". The Scholarship will be presented to the member who is chosen by an esteemed panel of judges, following their review of the white papers written by the members. The white paper must be 3500 to 5000 words in length and must answer the following question:

What priorities, challenges and solutions do you see for your organization, over the next 12 months, regarding Information Security and Governance/Assurance, considering the current economic climate?

The completion and submission of the white paper will also qualify the ISACA member for an additional 3 CPE credits, regardless of whether they win the Scholarship or not.

The white paper will be judged against the following criteria:

Relevance (Must cover InfoSec and Governance, or InfoSec and Assurance or all three subjects)
Practical considerations (Achievable, realistic implementation)
Financial considerations (Budget)

The SANS ISACA Initiative will run between 24th October, 2008 and 21st November, 2008. The SANS ISACA Scholarship recipient will be announced on 27th November, 2008 at the ISACA London Chapter Meeting
