Online luggage tracking available for air travellers

Trace Me Luggage Tracker : 30 June, 2008  (New Product)
In agreement with Airports Information and Immobilise, Trace Me Luggage Tracker enables luggage tagging and tracking through online services for airline travellers
Trace Me Luggage Tracker is delighted to announce a new deal that will see its luggage tracking service participating in an affiliate programme with Airports Information, the comprehensive web portal that draws together information from all 23 UK airports. Travellers will now be able to purchase the luggage tags via the airports information web site prior to departure, plus they will also find vital information on departures, arrivals and a host of useful travel tips from booking taxis to car parking services.

With 42 million pieces of luggage going missing every year, customers need more protection than ever when it comes to transporting their possessions via the world's airlines. "Passengers want their possessions, not compensation," says Trace Me director Sophie Osborn. "Proof of ownership is straightforward when a Trace Me tag is present and it is covered in excess of 1,960 airports."

Managing Director of Airports Information, Sean McCarthy, says, "Whilst everyone knows about identity theft and the importance of shredding documents, people do still write their names and addresses on cases and leave other important information inside their suitcases. It only takes one unscrupulous person to snip off an address label to know that your property is probably empty.

"The tags take away vulnerability for travelers and is a massive step forward in both securing your luggage and getting it back without revealing vital information that could leave travelers open to identity theft or their homes vulnerable."

Customers register their tags with immobilise, the world's largest property ownership register with over 18 million users, for immediate protection. Each tag carries a unique barcode which is securely attached to luggage from suitcases to laptop bags and even ski or golf bags. The barcode ensures that no personal information is revealed, further protecting owners from identity theft or unscrupulous people. Once scanned, the details registered by the owner at secure Immobilise, are only revealed to transport officials. As the tag is scanned, a SMS message and email is simultaneously sent to the owner with information of where their bag is and who to contact to ensure its return. Recognized in airports worldwide, travelers are given comprehensive security for their luggage wherever they may be.

"Five to six million bags are never reunited with their owners," says Trace Me Managing Director John Crosland. "The items are later auctioned by the airlines but with the Trace Me luggage tag, the airlines can easily identify the owner and arrange for your possessions to be returned to your door."

"The Montreal convention decrees that airlines have an obligation to repatriate luggage whenever that luggage can be reasonably identified," confirms Osborn. "When a case carries Trace Me Luggage Tracker tag that process is simple, quick and straightforward."
