OECD Report Response Suggests Private Sector Takes On Military Levels of Security

AEP Networks : 18 January, 2011  (Technical Article)
AEP Networks comments on the OECD report detailing the potential for globally catastrophic cyber-attacks, suggesting that high levels of computer security is not only the domain of government organisations
Attacks on computer systems now have the potential to cause global catastrophe, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has reported.

Mark Darvill of trusted security provider AEP Networks says: “Ensuring that military levels of security safeguard the integrity of the internet is absolutely critical as "cyber weaponry" becomes increasingly ubiquitous. Yet it’s not just the responsibility of governments. For the private organisations who provide the security of critical infrastructure such as power stations, water supplies and military locations, they need to think about how they will fortify their security measures in line with the new threats. It’s just as crucial that they deploy the highest grade security measures.”

“As we inevitably start seeing more targeted cyber attacks similar to Stuxnet, governments will need to focus their resources on separating the politically motivated cyber-attacks that compromise critical information from smaller, individual website defacements and other such acts.  By separating the wheat from the chaff and focusing on where the real threats lie, governments and enterprises will be able to ensure that their efforts are aligned with how to prevent the most disruption.”

AEP Networks provides the highest grade security technologies to government, military and enterprise organisations to support their mission critical applications and networks.
