NIST update support from SecureInfo

SecureInfo : 13 August, 2009  (Technical Article)
Support provided from SecureInfo for organisations looking to meet the requirements of the latest NIST Special Publication
SecureInfo has announced support for the much anticipated update to NIST Special Publication 800-53 Rev 3. The final version of this special publication, called "historic" by NIST, promises to have a significant impact on information assurance and compliance with FISMA. SecureInfo Information Assurance experts are now available to assist Federal agencies, Department of Defence organizations and the Intelligence Community in understanding the potential impact of SP 800-53 Rev 3, including developing and executing a plan to incorporate the latest guidance. Additionally, the company announced updates to its training curriculum and SecureInfo RMS (a comprehensive C&A software solution) that incorporates the new guidance.

"SP 800-53 Rev 3 is part of an ongoing effort to transform C&A by moving to a common security control framework for all of government. We applaud this effort as it will improve reciprocity and information sharing," said Christopher Fountain, president & CEO of SecureInfo Corporation. Fountain continued, "SecureInfo has always been on the forefront of guidance and regulations as they evolve. Whether it was the DITSCAP to DIACAP transition or the introduction of new NIST guidance, our customers rely on our expertise to comply with information security regulations. Standing ready to support government agencies with the application of SP 800-53 Rev 3 demonstrates our continued leadership. We are committed to remaining highly responsive as new guidance and legislation gets introduced."

According to NIST, SP 800-53 Rev 3 includes for the first time "security controls in its catalog for both national security and non-national security systems" as part of NIST's initiative to provide "a unified information security framework for the federal government and its contractors." The institute also stated that the updated guidance, "incorporates best practices in information security from the United States Department of Defence, Intelligence Community and Civil agencies, to produce the most broad-based and comprehensive set of safeguards and countermeasures ever developed for information systems."
