New Director appointed at the Security Institute

The Security Institute : 11 August, 2009  (Company News)
Bristol University's head of security has joined the board at the Security Institute to head up Standards and Good Practice
The Board of Directors of the Security Institute voted unanimously to co-opt Jerry Woods as a Director at their Board meeting in London on Friday 31st July 2009. Jerry, who is current Head of Security at Bristol University, brings a depth of practical and academic knowledge to the Board, and will immediately assume responsibility for Standards and Good Practice initiatives for the Institute.

Jerry started his professional life as a police officer, working in a variety of roles in his eight years. He joined the University of Bristol in 2002 and set about reforming the security service in his role as deputy head of security. In 2005, he was promoted to head of the unit, a position he had held since. In addition to the day job, Jerry is a board member of Westcountry Crimestoppers, a member of the executive for the Association of University Chief Security Officers as well as the Vice Chair of governors of a local primary school.

In commenting about his appointment, Jerry said "I am delighted to be asked to join the board of directors of the Security Institute. As the foremost security association in the UK, I hope to be able to add to the significant momentum that the Institute has already made in the sector."

As part of his ongoing personal professional development, Jerry recently applied to the Institute for revalidation of his membership, and the Board were also happy to receive and accept the recommendation that his membership be upgraded to Fellowship.

Commenting on the Board's decision to invite Jerry to join them, Institute Chairman Mike Bluestone said "I am delighted to welcome Jerry Woods to the Institute leadership team. Jerry brings with him a wealth of skills, achievements and experience in law enforcement, as well as the professional and academic security sectors. Jerry will make a major contribution to the development of the Institute's Good Practice initiatives and our overall programme of raising professional standards".
