Multi-port fibre encryption technology at InfoSec

Data on optical links can be protected with multi-port fibre encryption technology from InfoGuard.
For years, governmental and military organisations have routinely encrypted traffic passing over optical links. They know both as victim and perpetrator, that optical links are not as secure as is often assumed. Although wire tapping and hacking is a staple of the Hollywood blockbuster, in the real world, many large financial, trading, insurance, chemical, telco and industrial-companies and organisations are starting, as a result of ongoing and increasing compliance and regulatory guidelines to look more closely at the security of data in transit between sites.

At last years Infosec, InfoGuard highlighted the issue with the first public demonstration of a real-time hack against an optical Ethernet link using "off the shelf" components. The demonstration took only a few minutes and allowed eavesdropping of such a connection without damaging the outside cladding of the cable. This widely reported demonstration helped raise awareness of the issue, and the first Optical Ethernet Encryption Device to provide up to 256-bit AES data encryption with uninterrupted performance at 100%, while maintaining a stable latency of less than 5us for 1 and 10 Gb links.

For Infosecurity Europe 2008, InfoGuard will be launching InfoGuard Multilink Encryption- the world's first multi-link and multi-protocol encryption device able to seamlessly encrypt up to 10 interface ports simultaneously across any combination of Fibre Channel, Ficon and Ethernet protocols while maintaining low latency. InfoGuard's Multilink Encryption supports transmission over WDM, Dark Fibre, SDH or SONET networks allowing customers to economically secure all transit paths while improving network consolidation.

The Swiss based InfoGuard, together with its sister company Crypto, form "The Crypto Group", one of the most renowned security specialist in Europe with more than 300 employees, providing encryption devices in over 130 countries primarily to governments and military since 1952. InfoGuard has been incredible successful within Switzerland, delivering Cryptography and general security systems to private customers in the financial sector. The extensive lists include high profile banks such Credit Suisse, AIG Private Bank, and VP Bank.

The first year outside of its home territory has proven to be very successful for InfoGuard, with the establishment of new partners in the UK, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and across the Benelux region. Alongside a number of major orders, InfoGuard also signed a strategic partnership with IBM to allow it to handle distribution of and provide support services for InfoGuard's product lines throughout Europe.
