Mobile X-ray detection order from Latin American customs

American Science And Engineering : 20 May, 2008  (Application Story)
Z Backscatter vans for mobile X-ray inspection at border controls to be supplied to Latin American customs agency
American Science and Engineering has announced the receipt of an order for two Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) for a Latin American customs agency. The order includes operator training, service, and warranty.

"We are pleased to receive our second ZBV contract in a week from Latin America," said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. "Customs agencies in this region recognize the benefits and versatility of the ZBV to provide innovative solutions to strengthen their port and border security. The ZBV is ideal when a wide-range of settings and locations are involved — in fact, the ZBV offers the most maneuverability in a mobile X-ray system on the market to find hidden organic substances. International and domestic clients alike give the ZBV high marks for its flexibility in handling an array of complex security situations."

A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E's Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system's unique "drive-by" capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters.
