Cross Match Technologies will introduce its latest mobile solution during the Biometric 2009 Exhibition and Conference in Westminster, London. Be.U e-Passport will be shown during the UK-based conference, which begins on October 20th with the trade show opening on October 21st.

Be.U e-Passport joins a suite of Cross Match biometric solutions featuring the latest in digital security and identity management being showcased during the largest European exhibition for biometric technology suppliers and systems integrators. A mobile identity verification and credential validation solution, Be.U e-Passport is optimised for use at border checkpoints and immigration offices. ICAO has set the standard for secure travel credentials with the definition of e-passports. The electronic documents mitigate the risk of forgeries and impersonations through the use of biometric data stored on RFID chips.

'Be.U e-Passport is a compact handheld solution that combines biometric capture and credential validation to rapidly verify identities,' states Bill Dumont, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Marketing at Cross Match. The device optically collects data from the machine readable zone (MRZ) of ICAO standards-based e-passports, unlocking the biometric information stored on the secure RFID chips embedded in each e-passport. 'By matching the stored biometric data to a scanned fingerprint image, Be.U e-Passport quickly verifies the identity of the bearer of the electronic document,' explains Dumont.

A lightweight and self-contained solution, Be.U e-Passport is unique in that it does not require the addition of a swipe reader or plug-on end caps to validate credentials. The ergonomic package is designed for long-term use, making the portable unit ideal for single-hand operation. 'We designed Be.U e-Passport with the core application environments in mind,' shares Dumont. 'The result is a solution that is optimised for long-term use in challenging environments, such as border control, military bases or ships and in law enforcement.'
